The experience of being treated by Dr. Skaribas is best told by his patients. Jan Watters, an Acute Pain Nurse who needed help with her own chronic pain, tells her story in her own words.
Jan Watters’ CRPS Journey
I had a Spinal Cord Stimulator implanted in 2001 by a doctor who closed his practice soon after for health reasons. The doctor who took over his practice did a revision of the original stimulator, and it was not put in correctly.
I suffered for two years with a stimulator that didn’t work and had severe pain. I was desperate and I needed help, but you can’t just go to the yellow pages and hope the pain doctor you select is competent. I really didn’t know what to do.
One of the medical reps I knew was aware I was struggling with my pain and told me ”Jan, I know this doctor that I met when I was working with ultrasounds in Houston and he is really good.” Completely frustrated with the pain doctor I was working with at the time, I made an appointment with Dr. Skaribas.
I had an extensive initial interview with Dr. Skaribas, he wanted to make sure that I wasn’t just looking for pain killers, I was looking for a solution.
“I’m able to enjoy my life because of Dr. Skaribas.” – Jan Watters, back at work job as an acute chronic pain nurse.

Taking My Pain Personally
The first word that comes to my mind when I think of Dr. Skaribas is intelligence. He is so smart, and he’s so caring, and so concerned. If I’m having a bad pain day and I go in for an appointment, it really bothers him if I’m not getting proper relief for my pain. He wants to know what has changed? What’s going on? If the stimulator isn’t providing enough relief, let’s do something. He never leaves me without hope. There’s always something we can do.
Dr. Skaribas has changed my life. When this first happened. I was not functional. The stimulator is what made me functional again. It took at least half the pain away and usually more than that. I’m able to continue my career as an Acute Pain Nurse which allows me with my history to be more understanding of the pain my patients are having. I’ve suffered from chronic pain for 20 years, but I’m able to enjoy my life because of Dr. Skaribas.
I’ve recommended family, friends and professional acquaintances to see Dr. Skaribas for their chronic pain. A co-worker of mine had to quit working because of her injuries. When I told Dr. Skaribas what she was going through, he said, “I can help her”, and he did. I sent her to see Dr. Skaribas and now she’s super functional and working again. She’s doing everything she couldn’t before.
If you’re living with chronic pain, don’t. Dr. Skaribas will listen to you and help you. And I promise, he will never give up on you.
