Put Pelvic Pain
Behind You

Dr.Skaribas & Nobilis Health

Direct Solutions for Chronic Pelvic Pain*

Usually by the time Dr. Skaribas sees a patient with lingering pelvic pain, that patient has been through a nerve-wracking battery of tests to determine the origin. Some of the most common causes in men and women include endometriosis, chronic pudendal neuralgia, idiopathic pelvic pain, vulvodynia, interstitial cystitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, chronic prostatitis, as well as malignancies of the pelvis.

It is extremely important to have a board certified, fellowship trained pain management physician provide accurate diagnosis in order to offer an appropriate treatment.

Dr. Skaribas and Nobilis Health have solutions.*

Straight To The Source

Nerve Blocks for Pelvic Pain

Nerve blocks are pretty self explanatory—they block pain. The type of block Dr. Skaribas chooses will depend on the underlying condition and primary location of a patient’s discomfort. With a hypogastric plexus nerve block, numbing medication is injected directly to a group of nerves in the pelvis. Hypogastric sympathetic nerve block injections target a bundle of nerves near the base of the spine. Pudendal nerve diagnostic blocs not only numb the pudendal nerve for prolonged periods of time, relief also confirms that pudendal neuralgia is causing the pain.*

Race to the Brain

DRG Stimulation for Pelvic Pain

An alternative therapy for pelvic pain is to intercept the pain signal before it can reach the brain. A relatively new type of therapy called dorsal root ganglion (DRG) stimulation was approved by the FDA in 2016. Dr. Skaribas is the first physician to perform this ground breaking procedure in Houston and one of the first to teach and perform DRG stimulation in the United States. Dr. Skaribas inserts a small transmitter, similar to a pacemaker, which emits a low frequency signal designed to overtake and cancel out the pelvic pain impulse. For a large number of patients, this can provide the longest lasting relief from chronic pelvic pain. DRG stimulation is minimally invasive and recovery is swift.*
